Clinton Cash, 102, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2013 in Vestal, NY. He was born on June 10, 1911, in the small farming community of Smithfield, UT. One of seven children, he helped out on the farm in the mornings and was a star athlete in football, basketball and baseball after school. At the age of 19 he moved to San Francisco and five years later met Rita Zolezzi, whom he married in 1937. He served his country during World War II
as a medic in the South Pacific, eventually participating with the occupation troops in Japan. Clinton is survived by a daughter Nicki French and her husband Alan of Endwell, NY, grandsons, Mark of Binghamton, NY; and Scott and his wife Marla of Vestal, NY and two great granddaughters, Laurel and Calla; and a son Steve Cash and his wife Debbie of Pawling, NY and two grandsons, Christopher of Morristown, TN, and Bradford and his wife Lauren of Jacksonville, FL. Clinton retired from the City and County of San Francisco in 1976 and spent most of his retired life as an avid golfer and sports enthusiast. Before moving to New York, Clinton was honored as a volunteer for the Alzheimer's Association of Melbourne, FL. Clinton was known as a very easy-going, friendly, congenial person who always saw the positive and never complained. His son and daughter both agree that it would be difficult to find anyone he encountered in his lifetime that would say they did not like Clinton Cash. His family is very grateful for the loving care he received at the Hearth at Castle Gardens. Everyone there was very caring and supportive during these difficult last few months. We would also like to thank the wonderful staff of Lourdes Hospice who were so helpful. Clinton's family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 30, from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Wm. R. Chase & Son Funeral Home, 737 Chenango St. Port Dickinson. He will be laid to rest on Thursday at Florida Memorial Gardens in Rockledge, FL. Donations in Clinton's memory can be made to the United Way of Broome County, PO Box 550, Binghamton, NY 13902.
