A veteran of WWII, Don served the Army of the United States in North Africa and Italy from August 1943 to December 1945. He was honorably discharged in January of 1946. Don proudly worked 34 years for IBM Endicott in manufacturing, retiring in 1984. Don also held numerous part-time jobs that helped provide additional support for his family. He was a longtime member of Vestal United Methodist Church and then later First Baptist Church of Castle Creek where he found a special church family. Don is remembered for his service to his family and his support to those who could not help themselves. He volunteered over 20 years for Meals on Wheels, delivering meals with a warm smile and cheerful conversation. He also enjoyed spending time at Castle Gardens Senior Living Center and Vestal Nursing Home, playing games with the residents, taking them to doctor appointments and running errands for them. Don had a knack for fixing things with an understanding and interest in how mechanical devices worked, a skill he acquired during his service to his country and employment with IBM. Don always carried happy memories of times spent with his family in Sackets Harbor, NY, fishing, swimming, and boating. He taught us all through his example that service to God and others was the most important thing in life.
