Gale, Eleanor F.

The life of Eleanor (Baxter) Gale slipped away from us on September 3, 2013 at the age of 92 well attended by her husband and four children. As a graduate of the one room school house in New Durham, NH, Eleanor attended Farmington, N.H. High School with the class of 1941. She was a graduate of Chamberlain School of Design, Boston, MA. During World War II, Eleanor enlisted in the WAVES and was stationed in Norman, OK where she met her future husband, Richard Gale. Following discharge, Eleanor was one of the founders of the New Hampshire Chapter of WAVES National. Her professional career was based upon studies at the University of Connecticut, University of New Hampshire and Syracuse University. For twenty years, Eleanor was research librarian at the Union-Endicott High School in Endicott, NY where her husband Richard was a school principal. Eleanor was also a lifelong avid reader and enjoyed organic gardening and was a Master Gardener through the University of Connecticut. Eleanor took great pride and satisfaction in guiding her four children though their early years and on to college and successful lives: Janet F. Gale of Rochester, NH, Mary E. Gale of Warren, ME, Richard David Gale, Jr. of Griswold, CT and George T. Gale of New Durham, NH. Eleanor is survived by two grandchildren (of Mary Gale) Maxwell and Mitchell Magbie of Warren, ME. Services were held at the Peaslee Funeral Home and burial was at Pine Grove Cemetery, Farmington, NH.
