Johnson City: George Danko, 89, of Johnson City, passed away peacefully at Willow Point Nursing Home, after a short illness, on Monday February 4, 2013. He was predeceased by his parents, Mary & John Danko. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Lottie Danko, Johnson City; two sons and their spouses, John & Donna Danko, Binghamton and James & Deborah Danko of Elmira; two daughters and a spouse, Nancy Grant, Johnson City, and Carol & Gary Grant of Endicott; two brothers-in-law and a spouse, Joseph Gankiewicz, Johnson City and Edward & Euvil Gankiewicz of Tupper Lake, NY; one sister-in-law and spouse, Helen & Walter Savichky of Johnson City; nine grandchildren and their spouses, Marc & Michael Danko, Michele & Angelo Mastronardi, Jennifer & Micha Yonkoski, Desiree, Dylan & Jaime Danko, Angela & Kip Cerasaro and Brian Grant; four great grandchildren that he adored, Sydney & Braddock Yonkoski, Julia Mastronardi and Roman Cerasaro. George was a former member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, now The Church of The Holy Trinity. He was a veteran of WWII, with the US Air Force in the Pacific, and witnessed the raising of the American flag on Iwo Jima, both times. George was a retired postal worker with 30 years of service. The family would like to thank the doctors & nursing staff at Willow Point Nursing Home, for their compassionate care. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, February 7, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. at The Church of The Holy Trinity, 346 Prospect St. Binghamton, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
