Binghamton: John F. Barina, 90, of Binghamton, passed away at the NYS Veterans Home, Oxford, NY, on Sunday, May 5, 2013. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Helen Barina; four brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his two sons and daughters-in-law, John T. and Winifred Barina of Binghamton and James M. and Latisha Barina of Salem, MA; two daughters and sons-in-law, Roseanne and Brian Runau of Indiana and Marie and Richard Mullins of Binghamton; four grandchildren and their spouses, Thomas Barina, Michael and Ceara Barina, Heather and Jeremy Packard, and Sean Mullins; a great-granddaughter, Lillian Packard; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Julia Fiacco and Johanna Quick and Anne and Paul Sheredy, all of Binghamton. John was a member of SS Cyril & Method Catholic Church. He was a City of Binghamton Firefighter
with 38 years of service and a past President of the Firefighters Union, Local 729, a meat cutter for Darlings Meat Co. and a veteran of WWII
. He was a forward observer for the 345th field artillery, US Army
90th Infantry Division serving from Normandy to the Battle of the Bulge, where he was wounded and received the Purple Heart
. John loved to fish and hunt and spent many hours on Cayuga Lake. Donations may be made in John's name to the Retired Professional Firefighters Cancer Fund Inc., 4 Loretta Dr., Binghamton, NY 13905. A funeral service will be held Thursday at 9:00 a.m. at Laskowski Funeral Home and at 9:30 a.m. at SS Cyril & Method Catholic Church, 148 Clinton St., Binghamton, NY. Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive relatives and friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Arrangements and supervision by:
