John T. (Yanni) Carris

Carris, John T. (Yanni)

John T. (Yanni) Carris passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully, in his Vestal, NY home Monday, July 1, 2013. At 92 years of age, John had a wonderfully long and happy life. He was an entertainer, making people laugh and awing them with his artistic creations, ingenuity and musical ability - playing his mandolin whenever he could. At times he played with a band that performed mediterranean music at events and at other times at home and at "jam" parties. And he loved throwing parties! He was well known for his ritual of having a relaxing martini at 5:00 p.m. every day, no matter where he was, and bonding with friends and family while doing so. John served his country in the Navy in the U.S. Coast Guard during WWII. He was very proud of his service and often got together with his Coast Guard buddies through the decades. His love of boats and bodies of water continued after his service as he took his family on many wonderful vacations starting with a 14 foot row boat with a trailing motor to bigger and better cabin cruisers. He continued to travel a lot and enjoyed several cruises after the kids grew up. He was Vice-President and Partner of Endicott Machine and Tool until he retired, and was very well respected during his tenure there. John was predeceased by his loving wife Stella Carris; parents Theodore J. and Florence Carris and grandsons Craig Davis and Theodore J. Carris Jr. He is survived by his children, Fran Carris (Michael) of Dallas, TX, Ted Carris (Chris) of Vestal, NY, Deborah Dinauta (Tom) of Boston, MA and Delia Davis of Endicott, NY, as well as his love partner of many years, Irene Dinauta of Boston, MA and many, many other family members and friends. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Scott Davis, John Davis, Joe P. Davis, John S. Carris, Elizabeth Carris, Paula Carris, Dana Carris, Ryan Carris, and Steven Dinauta. John is also survived by 11 great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren. John's wishes are to be cremated with no services. He also wished that the family throw a party celebrating his life following his passing. Details are pending. Condolences to the family may be sent to 921 Cherry Lane, Vestal, NY, 13850.
