Gianakos, Leon "Louie" Nicholas
Leon "Louie" Nicholas Gianakos, 66, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Sunday, December 30, 2012. He was predeceased by his parents. Nicholas and Demetra Gianakos and sister-in-law, Carol Gianakos. Louie is survived by his wife, Betty (Bronson); his "special children," Scott & Carrie Arquette, Donny & Jennifer Smith and Ash & Aimee Donovan; and by the lights-of-his-life grandchildren, Tirzah, Lucy & Poppy Arquette, Sarah & Michael Smith and Reilly & Jack Donovan; his brother and business partner, John Gianakos; his niece, Demetra & Edward Molina; nephew, Nicholas Gianakos and his extended inherited family. Louie emigrated from Greece with his parents and brother in 1951 with one suitcase. His parents wanted to give them freedom and a better life. He was a 1966 graduate of Binghamton High School. Louie achieved the American dream when he and his brother opened their restaurant, Niko's Diner, in 1984. One of the highlights of his life was being "Papou" to his seven sunbeams. He also loved his niece and nephew as if they were his own children. Louie was selfless, hardworking, he never complained and was always looking out for the benefit of others. He loved gardening, photography, cooking, his fish pond and the NY Giants. He embraced his Greek heritage and was always teaching Greek ideology to anyone who would listen. He was a loving, devoted, caring husband who will be greatly missed. A true Spartan, Etas Epitan. A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, January 5, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Wm. R. Chase & Son Funeral Home, 737 Chenango Street, Port Dickinson, NY 13901. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Windsor, NY at the convenience of the family.
