Smith, Maria (Serratelli) and William D.

Vestal: Maria (Serratelli), 65, and William D. Smith, 65, both of Vestal passed away Monday April 15, 2013 at their home. Maria was born February 10, 1948, in Newark NJ, the daughter of the late Raffaella (Lena Rossi) and Giacomo (Jack) Giovanni Serratelli. Maria was the first teaching assistant (TA) in the Department of Economics at SUNY Binghamton while earning her Masters Degree in Economics. Maria is survived by her two sisters, Angela Pecoraro and Jacqueline Lygate; brothers, Jack, Peter and Dean Serratelli; six nieces, five nephews, two great nieces, and four great nephews who loved her dearly. William was born September 12, 1947 in Phoenix, AZ, the son of the late Beulah (Johnson) and Fred Elias Smith. William (Douglas) was a world-class Physicist (undergraduate) at Arizona State University: a PHD from the State university of New York at Binghamton. He also taught as a professor at Binghamton and a physicist for many years, worked on many government contracts, that could not be discussed. William also worked on the F 14 and F 16 fighter jets for Lockheed Martin. William developed liquid guiding systems for missiles. He was a devoted husband of 37 years, that cared for his wife with loving care to help her. He was a devoted Catholic and a member of St. Vincent Parish. He was very inspirational to all his family on the importance of a higher education. He is survived by his sister, Debra Ann Villanueva; his brother, Daniel Busbey; aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends. A graveside service will be held Wednesday April 24, at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Cemetery in Johnson City, NY. Arrangements are with the Ernest H. Parsons Funeral Home 71 Main Street, Binghamton, NY.
