Wackett, Arthur T.

Arthur T. Wackett, 55, of Binghamton, NY passed away on Tuesday, September 10, 2013. He was predeceased by his father Gordon and his brother Paul, and is survived by his mother Julia; sisters Roberta (Frank) Plunkett; Theresa (Steve) Ball Paden; Maria (Chris Welsh) Wackett; and brother Russell. Born with a form of muscular dystrophy known as arthrogryposis, Arthur endured many struggles throughout his life with a strong will. He learned to walk, drove a car, and worked at S.T.I.C., the Sheltered Workshop, and Community Options, Inc., where his robust voice answered the phones. Arthur was possessed of a remarkably affable personality evidenced by his many friends, as well as an intellect that manifested itself in his detailed knowledge of classic automobiles, movies, music, and historic events. He was an avid Yankees fan. Above all, Arthur wanted to live an independent life, and pursued his goal relentlessly. We will miss his humor, companionship and spirit. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Vincent de Paul/Blessed Sacrament Church, Clubhouse Road, on Saturday, September 14 at 10:00 am. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the McDevitt & McManus Funeral Home, LLC, 88-90 Front St., Binghamton on Friday from 4-7 pm.
