Thomas "Tom" McGovern of Binghamton passed away after a long courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 surrounded by loving family. He is predeceased by his parents Robert and Beverly McGovern and father-in-law, James F. Clarke. Tom is survived by his loving family; his wife, Bunny and his precious daughters Leah and Allison. He is also survived by his siblings; Karen (Ed) Thompson, Nancy McGovern, Pat (Mike) Kintner, Tim (Sheila) McGovern. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Mary T. Clarke; and the extended Clarke family, that loved him dearly; many nieces and nephews that will truly miss him and his practical jokes and sense of humor! He also leaves behind many, many wonderful friends throughout the years! Tom worked for IBM Owego and Endicott as a computer programmer, which he truly loved and continued to work throughout his illness, even bringing his computer to the hospital and in the ICU. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his girls, friends and nephews. He took great pride passing on this tradition to several of his nieces and nephews. Tom will be remembered for his quick wit, his one liners and his all around great sense of humor. The family will always cherish the yearly family vacations to Millens Bay and the beaches of Emerald Isle where MANY family volleyball games took place, where excelled at his infamous jump serve, and his "praying hands" return. Oh the fun we had! Tom's most treasured accomplishment was his devotion to his girls; molding them into the wonderful girls they have become, taking great interest for their love of athletics and especially for their love of softball! This led them to the life of travel softball where they met and made the greatest of friends! We would like to thank all of our family and friends for the many donations of time, money, food and kind words, and the special emails and text messages of support or laughs keeping Tom's spirits up during difficult times! Special thanks to the doctors and nurses at Lourdes Hospital, especially those in the Emergency Room, 1 Ross, and the ICU and to the staff at Thomas Jefferson University. All who took excellent care of Tom throughout his illness. A Funeral Mass will be offered on Monday, June 30 at 9:30 a.m. at St. James Church, 155 Main St., Johnson City. The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 29 from 4 p.m. - 7 p.m. at J.F. Rice Funeral Home, Inc., 150 Main St., Johnson City. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the McGovern College Fund which can be deposited at any Visions FCU. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
