Acen Demick Obituary

Acen Andrew Edward Demick
of Johnson City
Acen Andrew Edward Demick, 5, of Johnson City, went to be with our Lord and Jesus and join the angels Friday, September 3, 2010, at Upstate Medical Center after a very brief illness. Acen is predeceased by his great-great-grandfather, "Pop" John Yoder; and his great-grandfathers, Thomas E. Babcock and "Cookie Monster" Edward Demick. Acen is survived by his wonderful, loving daddy, Drew Demick; his little sister, Serenity "Reny" Demick; his biological mother, Jessica Demick of Colorado; his great-great-grandmother, "Nana" Esther Yoder; and his great-grandmother, "Bopchi" Shirley Demick of Vestal; his grandparents, "Popa" Edward and "Mommy" Patti Ruland; his aunts and uncle, Arielle, Shayla, Kayana, Cambri and Chancelor Ruland of Johnson City; his "Uncy Tom" Thomas and aunt Lori Babcock and cousins, Thomas Babcock and Rachel Warfel of Vestal; his aunt and uncle, "Aunt Rhea" Debora and Darin Bunch and cousins, Acen Davia and Cadmen Bunch of South Carolina; along with many other distant relatives and close friends. Acen was a bright, beautiful young man with a zest for life and brought blessed joy to all he met. He was our little man, looking forward to starting kindergarten and soccer and was a member of the Johnson City Wrestling Club. Acen will be missed by all as he joins Jesus to become our littlest angel with his grandfathers in heaven. We love you, Acen, and know you will always be with us until we can be with you again.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Valleyview Alliance Church, Vestal. The family will receive friends on Tuesday at 10 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, the family would greatly appreciate donations to help defray funeral costs. Arrangements are by the Barber Memorial Home, Inc., Johnson City.

Dear Shayla and Family,
We were sorry to hear of your loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your families. Although Acen is no longer with us here, find comfort that God has him gently resting in his arms. As you look to the stars each night, you will see a new bright shining star looking down upon you. Acen will forever be there watching over his family with love for all eternity. God Bless you all !

To one of the brightest young boys I know, heaven just gained a precious angel. I'll always remember hearing "Hi, How are you today?" in that sweet voice of yours, as you walked into preschool.

This is a poem I wrote when I lost a son. I hope it comforts you in some way.
We all ask why at times, and this poem illustrates this question.

The church is dark and empty

She bows her head and begins to pray

Father, she prays aloud and with fury

Why did my child have to die she begins to say

Why oh why did my child have to die today?

I loved him, I cherished him, he was my baby you see

Why did he have to die, Father, please tell me!

Father I hear nothing from you on this issue today

I need to know that you are listening as I pray

Give me an answer to this one request

Give me an answer and I will do my best

To serve you and love you with all of my might

Father this is one thing I need to know

Why was my child taken out of my sight?

Why was he taken on Christmas day

Why did he die I ask you why, I pray

The day turns into night for me this year.

My child took a piece of me with him I fear

I hear my Father then whisper in my ear

He died because I needed him here

Heaven is a place for perfect happiness he says

There is no pain or dying there

Only perfect peace and this I wear

Trust in me in all things and know this well

He is safe in my arms and this is where he will dwell

Drew and Ruland Family,
There are no words that I can offer you to make these days easier. I only know that the world is a darker place without that little boy's light. His amazing smile, and curious, inquisitive nature always kept everyone around him on their toes. I'm so sad that the world won't get to experience the amazing young man that Acen was supposed to become. My heart goes out to you and Reny. He looked up to you so much, and God help anyone who messed with his little sister. If there is anything I can ever do, don't hesitate to ask!
