Bernard E. Atutis, from Binghamton, passed away unexpectedly on April 13, 2012. Bernie was born on May 18, 1957, first son of Bernard P. and Ursula Atutis. Bernie was predeceased by his father, Bernard P., in December 2001. Bernie is survived by his wife of several years, Karen Manchester Atutis; stepsons, Michael Smith, Jacob Bryden, and Maya Eubank; stepdaughter, Diana and Tom Oakley; grandchildren, Bette-Jane, Tommy, Kate-Lyn, Logan, Trinity; mother, Ursula; sisters, Diana and Bernadine; brothers, Robert and Mark; nephews, Brad Robinson, Aaron, and Adrian; niece, Tonya Robinson. Bernie began his career as a mechanic at Frank Whitney's service station in Conklin, later working for Town of Chenango water department, Bill Brown Construction, DeVincentis Construction, Dan Armstrong Construction, Binghamton Honda, and ran his own construction business for many years. His construction and mechanical repair business, Bernie's Performance, kept him occupied these last several years. Bernie left his own special mark on this community, not only with his custom woodworking and mechanical skills, but in the way he touched people with his friendship and generosity. Bernie will certainly be remembered for many years to come. He so enjoyed countless hours fishing, boating, and most all motor sports. Bernie is at peace now playing fetch with his favorite dog, Rufus, nearby a lake. At Bernie's request, there will be no calling hours. Friends are invited to a celebration of his life to be held at Chenango Valley State Park (Pine Plains) on May 18th, his 55th birthday, from 3 p.m. until dusk.
