Brett Sherburne Obituary
Hancock, NY: Brett R. Sherburne, 19, of Hancock, passed away unexpectedly on November 9, 2011. He was born on April 25, 1992 in Johnson City, the son of Allen and Brenda (Wheeler) Sherburne. Brett was a graduate of Hancock Central School Class of 2010. He then attended Alfred State College, Broome Community College and was recently hired as a Salesman at Gault Chevrolet. Brett was a member of Boy Scout Troop 74 and he attended Ryla (Rotary Youth Leadership Conference) in '09. He played JV and Varsity Baseball and Football and he made the first touchdown on Hancock's new field after recovering a fumble. Brett was a passionate hunter, fisherman, and car enthusiast. He also enjoyed trapping, four wheeling, and boating and loved being with his entire extended family. Brett's smile was contagious. Surviving are his parents, 2 brothers, Brad and Bryant, 1 sister, Brooke, and paternal grandmother, Gloria Sherburne. Also surviving are aunts and uncles, Larry and Bobbie Tuttle, Jon and Millie Brush, Rich and Jackie Curtis, Jeff and Irena Wheeler, Ron and Kelly Wheeler, Greg and Linda Wheeler, Ed and Becky Wheeler, Richard and Sue Sherburne, Greg and Sara Sherburne, and Shelley Sherburne, and many cousins. He was predeceased by maternal grandparents, Robert Douglas and Dorothy Wheeler, and paternal grandfather, Richard Sherburne. Calling hours will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2011 from 11AM-2PM and a funeral service will follow at 2PM all at the Emory United Methodist Church, Hancock. Rev. Dr. Roxy Moses and Rev. Dale Ashby will officiate. Interment will follow in the East Branch Cemetery, East Branch. Arrangements by Henderson-Biedekapp Funeral Chapel, Hancock.

Brett was one of my closest friends. Friendship shouldn't end after highschool. We continued our friendship in college and I loved it! We always had sooo much fun no matter what we did! I miss you so much each and every day that passes! My hearts aches and will forever ache because I lost a part of me that I can't get back! <3

You know when you're a little kid and you have something you think is so exciting, so awesome, that you bring it to school to share with everyone?
Brett was still doing that in the 12th grade. It always made me happy to see him so excited about something. Because I've noticed that when you get older, no one seems to get excited about anything anymore. But Brett always did.
And he was always up for anything. If I came up with some joke, no matter how ridiculous it was, Brett would always play along. And he was good at it. He usually ended up pulling off the joke off better than I did.
No one is like that. No one is that excited, and fun, and happy. But he was.

Brett I will always remember you scoring the 1st touchdown on the new football field! You came up with that ball and I was like "OMG its Brett, Brett scored the 1st touchdown!" I think we should put your jersey in a glass box on the birdhouse in your memory. There will never be another who scores the very 1st touchdown on that field. You will always be remembered. I remember the times Brett and I would always fool around and have a blast together. Like on the senior trip or on the ride to take our SAT's.
