Pettus, Charles "Chuck"

Windsor: Chuck Pettus, 80, died November 15, 2013. He is survived by a brother John S. Pettus, a nephew, Paul Ogden, dear friends and neighbors, Doug and Chris Hawkins and a large number of friends he made in the community. He was predeceased by a sister, Mary Pettus Ogden. Chuck received his Bachelor's degree from the University of Pittsburgh and his Master's degree from SUNY Binghamton. He was a Professional Engineer and was among the first African-Americans to work for IBM where he worked as a Physicist. Chuck was a naturalist and enjoyed hiking, running and skating. For many years he played clarinet in the IBM Band. The Southern Tier Concert Band, and the Maine Community Band. He was known throughout the community for his work with youth. He held a firm belief that you should appreciate what you have and give back to others to make the world a better place for everyone.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Hopler & Eschbach Funeral Home, 483 Chenango St. Binghamton. Services and burial will be held at a later date.
