Apgar, Donald Harlem

Donald Harlem Apgar (Don), 85, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2013 at Lourdes Hospital. He was predeceased by his devoted wife of 59 years Winifred Apgar, his parents Harlem and Edith Apgar and granddaughter Heather Apgar. He is survived by his four children, Cheryl and Gary Hannis of Victor, NY, Bruce and Kim Apgar of Simpsonville, SC, Irene and Ronald Weiler of Dandridge, TN and Linda Apgar of Binghamton, NY; his grandchildren, Mark Hannis, Bonnie Apgar Schoon and husband William, Becky Apgar Bajan and husband Justin, Laura Apgar, Shannon Apgar and Joshua Weiler; and great-grandchildren, Zachary, Julianna and Caleb Schoon and Lydia Bajan. Donald was born in Jutland, NJ and graduated from Clinton High School. He received a Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering from Lafayette College graduating with honors and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He later received a Masters degree in Electrical Engineering from Syracuse University. He was employed by IBM for 33 years holding various engineering and management positions in Endicott and at the Glendale Lab. Don was a devoted Husband and Father, who loved the Lord and was a member of the Johnson City Alliance Church. He was known to many of his friends at Good Shepherd Village as a cheerful person always eager to learn new things and help others in need. His greatest joy in his later years was spending time with his family and friends and traveling with his wife. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors at Lourdes Hospital who took such gentle care of our Dad during the final weeks of his life. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday March 2 at the Wm. R. Chase & Son Funeral Home, 737 Chenango St., Port Dickinson. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday March 1 from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m.
