Gardner, Douglas

Chenango Forks: Douglas Gardner, 55, of Chenango Forks, went to be with his Father, seeking eternal peace, on Friday, April 26, 2013. Doug's passions were playing in the dirt with his machinery equipment, riding his Harley, being a NASCAR racing fan, and his work. He started working in his father's machine shop out of high school. Later he opened his first machine shop, Proto-Fab, in the garage of his house, which he eventually sold, with the intent to "semi-retire". Not being one to stop working, he founded ProTow and JEDS, before returning to his roots and taking over Akraturn, his father's machine shop, with his brother David. He was an avid supporter of the Elks Club in Johnson City. Doug was always the first person to extend a helping hand. He is preceded in death by his father, Walter Gardner. He is survived by his wife, Joan (née Delmage); sons, Dennis (Sabrina), Drew, and Robert; grandson, Gavin; mother, Marilyn Gardner (née Lucia); brother, David (Elinor); father and mother-in-law, James and Viola Hebert; and many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, May 1st, 2013, at 12 Noon at the Wm. R. Chase & Son Funeral Home, 737 Chenango St., Port Dickinson, with a longtime friend, Rev. Dennis Ruda, Pastor of All Saints Polish National Catholic Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Nineveh Presbyterian Cemetery in Nineveh, NY. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Johnson City Elks Lodge 2821, 4212 Watson Blvd., Johnson City, NY 13790 in memory of Doug.
