McMaster, Douglas M
Douglas McMaster, 85, of Binghamton passed away on September 14, 2017. He is predeceased by his wife Alberta McMaster, Father, Merton McMaster & Mother and Step-Father, Kathryn & Orio Edwards, and Son Jerry McMaster. He is survived by his Daughter and Son-in-Law, Deborah & Kevin Padbury, Daughter and Son-in-Law, Cindy & Mark Olbrys, Sister, Mary Edwards, Brother-in-law Richard Hammond, Grandchildren, Travis & Christa Webb, Shannon & Corey Green, JD & Heather McMaster, Brandon & Stefanie Olbrys, Brett Olbrys & Samantha Spalholtz, Briana Olbrys & Brad Rogers, Shawna Hill & Nate Andrus, Erin & James Brown, Elise McMaster & Chris McBrayer, Daughter-in-Law, Virginia McMaster, and many wonderful great grandchildren. Many close friends will miss him dearly.
Doug was married to his high school sweetheart "Bertie" for 66 years. His love for Bertie was so strong that he gave up a full basketball scholarship. They enjoyed their wine time, trips to Florida and spoiling their cats and dogs!
He enjoyed golf beginning at a young age and continued until he was unable. Whether it was tournaments with friends from the Local Union or just a round on a nice day, Doug was happy to be out there, but not without his true friend and golf partner of 45 years Dave Gorman right by his side. Doug was an avid NY Giants fan, excelled at many sports, a local legend in many softball leagues and claimed to have the fastest legs in Broome County in his time.
He joined the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 112 in October of 1952. In 1977, he began taking on many roles in the Local Union such as Business Manager until his retirement in 2005. He was the President of the NYSPTA with over 25,000 members and served on the IDA for 25 years. He was extremely proud of his work and the love he had for the Union.
Visitation will be held at the THOMAS J. SHEA Funeral Home Inc. 137 Robinson St. Binghamton, NY 13904 on September 19, 2017 from 2-5pm . A Memorial Service will follow at 5pm. In Lieu of flowers please make donations to Mercy House, 212 N.McKinley Ave, Endicott, NY.

We are sorry to hear of Doug's passing. He was a good friend of my father's and they had many good times together. The setting for more than a few of the them was The Windsor Golf Course on Friday nights with Ed Ksionzyk and Dave Gorman serving as co-pilots.
The mention of his name always brought a smile to any that knew him and I am proud to be included in that large group. He was very kind to all and had a wonderful sense of humor. The likes of him will not be seen for a very long time to come.

Words fail me.....I've known Dougie both as my dad's boss and friend and as my own business acquaintance when I worked in local advertising and Doug would come into the office and "torment" me with his charm and wit. He will be sorely missed by many. My prayers are with all of you during this time of sorrow.
