Douglas Read Obituary

Read, Douglas Alan

Douglas Alan Read, born January 23, 1952, passed away unexpectedly on November 10, 2011. He follows his father, Leiper Patterson Read, and leaves behind his wife of 28 years, Tomoko; his daughter Erika; his mother Katherine Read; and brother Donald. A graduate of Whitney Point High School in upstate New York, holder of a bachelor's degree from Eisenhower College in Seneca Falls, NY, and an MBA from Sophia University in Tokyo, Japan. Doug began his career with Avco Leasing, living for 7 years in Japan before returning to the US in 1983 to reside in Orange County, CA and working at Sky Financial Solutions which was later acquired by Bank of America. His passion for baseball and love for his home team of the New York Yankees followed him wherever he went, and never diminished. He has left us too soon. Don, I am so sorry to hear of your great loss. How sad we both lost our big brothers within a couple of months time. I feel your pain, and I hope and pray it will get better with time. My deepest condolences to you and your Mother, and all of your family and friends. Much love, Dianna

To the entire Read Family,
My thoughts and prayers are with you during this most difficult time. I was a classmate and friend of Doug's from WPCS. We shared classes and homerooms for many years. I have only been able to attend reunions in 1990 and 1995, but wonderful memories of old school friends are always with me. My mother, Ruth Moyer-now 93, was a secretary in the high school office while we were in school and she remembers Doug as one of the "good kids". That meant he stayed out of trouble and he wasn't coming into the office to see the principal or to serve detention. That sums up my memories of Doug. He was a good kid and a good friend and I am sure he grew up to be a very good man. He will be missed at future Class of 1970 reunions. Rest in peace until we meet again, my friend.

To Tomoko, Erika, Don and Aunt Katherine. Jack and I will miss Doug tremendously. I'm sorry we have always lived so far away and haven't been able to spend more time with you as a family. It would have been wonderful to have had you all close by. You are all in our thoughts and prayers.

I have fond memories of our childhood in Castle Creek - playing baseball behind the town barn, basketball in the Reid's driveway, etc. My sincere sympathies to the family, and may God comfort you during this difficult time.

To Aunt Katherine, Don, Tomoko, Erika
I have fond memories of Doug, especially as an infant bouncing him up and down in the ocean at Jones Beach. My Mom always looked forward to his visits when he came East on business trips. We will miss him.

To the Read family, I extend heartfelt sympathy in your loss. Doug was an amazing friend through the school years. I remember his smile and unassuming intelligence. God bless you and your family.
