Binghamton: Edward Kostyshak, 86, passed away peacefully at Lourdes Hospital on October 31, 2013. Edward was predeceased by his beloved wife, Geraldine (Kalan); son Daniel; parents, Anna (Vencko) and William Kostyshak; brothers, Peter, Michael and John; and sisters, Helen Himko and Celia Koast. He is survived by his son William (Lisa) Kostyshak (Rochester, NY); daughter Daria Brown (McLean, VA); and grandchildren, Rachel Brown, Matthew Kostyshak, Christopher Standhart, Vicki Standhart, and Jonathan Standhart. Edward is also survived by brothers, Stephen (Natalie), Andrew and Joseph (Mary Jane) Kostyshak; sister, Mary Ann (Ed) Sinnema; and many nieces and nephews. Edward entered the United States Army Air Corps in World War II and later served in the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) 703rd Military Police Battalion as a member of the Presidential Guard Unit and as Corporal of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknowns. He was a skilled craftsman his entire life. Trained as a tool and die maker in Detroit, MI, he worked for General Motors for 30 years. Upon retirement, he moved back to his boyhood home where he spent his time renovating the old farmhouse, improving the estate, and hosting many friends and family. Later he hand crafted fine woodworking which he often gave away. Whenever someone needed help, Edward was glad to assist. He was a voracious reader and loved to talk with all who came across his path. He never complained and throughout his life lived by the motto "Do your best and pray for the rest". The family wishes to thank the staff at Lourdes Hospital for their compassionate care of Edward in his final days. A funeral service will be celebrated by Very Rev. Protopresbyter James Dutko on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Michael's Greek Catholic Church, 292 Clinton Street, Binghamton. Burial will be in St. Mary's Russian Orthodox Cemetery. Rev. Dutko will conduct a prayer service 4PM Friday at the Chopyak-Scheider Funeral Home, 326 Prospect Street, Binghamton where the family will receive friends Friday 4-7PM.
