Barton, NY: Frances May Vrooman, passed away at her home early Friday morning November 29, 2013 at the age of 91. She was predeceased by three husbands, Virgil Vrooman, LeRoy Hartman, Roy Sturdevant, Sr.; three sons, Roy Sturdevant, Jr., Larry Hartman, Allan Vrooman; sister and brother-in-law, Louise and Ralph Lewis; brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Kathleen Griffin; and her son-in-law, Ted Bishop. Frances is survived by her children, Nancy Bishop, Floyd and Barbara Hartman, William and Lila Hartman, Armond and Patricia Vrooman, Robert and Kim Vrooman; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and their families. Frances was born on May 2, 1922, the daughter of Claude and Beatrice (Besteder) Griffin. She was a lifetime member of the Nichols American Legion Auxiliary Post 1624, lifetime member of Owego VFW Auxiliary Post 1371, and over 50 year member of the Loyal Order of Moose #1595, and was an active, dedicated member of each organization. Among her many jobs throughout the years she was most well known as an excellent housekeeper for many families around the area and also at Richards Funeral Home for over 30 years. A Funeral Service will be held at Richards Funeral Home Rte. 17c West, Owego, NY on Tuesday December 3, 2013, at 11:00AM, with Rev. Gary Smith, Pastor of the Tioga Center Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Tioga Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to visit at Richards Funeral Home on Monday December 2, 2013 from 6:00PM until 8:00PM.
