Harold F. "Hal" Bartz, 85, passed away at his home in Newark Valley on Tuesday, July 23, 2013. Hal is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Elisabeth "Betsy" Bartz and his cherished daughter Meg (Dale) Ward. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Joseph, Ryan, Sierra (Josh), Paul (Angel); brother, Ernest Bartz; nephews, Daniel and Timothy; nieces, Judith, Alayne, Ellen and Susan. He was predeceased by his parents Jacob and Marjorie Bartz; his son, Charlie; brother, James; nephew, Steven and niece, Cynthia. Hal was a devoted member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Owego, where he had served as Senior Warden, member of the Vestry, and joyfully sang with the choir for 53 years. He also sang with the IBM Men's Glee Club. Hal served in the US Army, and retired from IBM Owego following 30 years of service. Many musical events were professionally recorded by Hal including those performed by the Binghamton Community Orchestra, Newark Valley Christmas Cantata, Kirby Band and school concerts. Friends are invited to share their special memories with his family at the MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley on Tuesday, July 30 from 4-6PM. A Memorial Service and Celebration of his Life will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Owego on Wednesday at 11AM.
