Herbert Maas
of CandorHerbert Maas, 67, of Owego Road, Candor, N.Y. died August 6, 2003, at his residence. Herbert was born October 4, 1935 in Mutterstadt, Germany to Ludwig and Erna Neumann Maas. He was a 1957 graduate of Cornell University, earning a degree in Dairy Science. Herb was a retired dairy farmer. He was an associate member of the Candor Emergency Squad, an Election Inspector and a driver for The Finger Lakes Library System. He was a member of Temple Concord in Binghamton, N.Y. Herbert is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, T. Jane Schoemann Maas, Candor, N.Y.; his mother, Erna Maas, Owego, N.Y.; his sons, Daniel I. (Leni) Maas, Ithaca, N.Y., Jeffery S. (Ande) Maas, Candor, N.Y., and Aaron C. (Jennifer) Newman, New York City, N.Y.; a daughter, Kimberly I. (Bruce) Lutz, Compton, Md.; a brother-in-law, Ralph (Joan) Schoemann, Guilford, Conn. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Arminda and Brelin Mattoon, Jacob Lutz, Rhyne Maas, and Evelyn Newman.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 8 at 12 Noon at The Candor Funeral Parlour, 137 Main Street, Candor, N.Y., with the Rabbi Michelle Medwin officiating. Friends may call Friday, beginning at 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be at Temple Israel Cemetery, Conklin N.Y., at 2 p.m. Shiva Memorial Services will be held at the Maas residence in Candor (Catatonk) on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday at 7 p.m. and on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the Daniel Maas residence in Ithaca. Shiva will also be observed Sunday morning at 8:30 a.m. and Monday through Thursday at 7:30 a.m. at the Daniel Maas residence in Ithaca. Friends will be received at the Maas residence Saturday afternoon and evening, Sunday and Monday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Candor Emergency Squad, P.O.
