Asselta, John A.
Born on March 31st 1934 in Utica, NY. Passed on Tuesday, September 24, 2013, at Wilson Medical Center after a long and courageous battle with cancer. The son of Antoinette (Grillo) and Anthony Asselta. He is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia (Dimeo) Asselta, whom he married on June 8th 1957; his daughter, Lynda Asselta Arcuri of Utica, NY, son, John P Asselta of Littleton, CO; his grandchildren (who affectionately called him Peep), Lauren Arcuri, Michael Arcuri and his fiancée Ashley Owen, and Nicole (Arcuri) and Paul Diamond of Utica, NY; his brother, Marcel Asselta; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; his sister Giacinta; and son-in-law, Michael J. Arcuri. His last big engagement was walking his granddaughter, Nicole, down the aisle at her wedding on June 8th, 2013. John graduated from UFA in 1952. He earned his Master's degree at Rochester Institute of Technology with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Following his graduation from RIT, he was offered a position with IBM in Endicott, New York. During his time at IBM his Patents in circuit board development paved the way to modern computer technology. John retired in 1990 from IBM as Senior Engineer Manager. John always knew how to engage your spirit with kindness and an open ear. He was always there to give advice and never asked for it in return. John was courageous and kind. You could always count on John for a good laugh, because he was always entertaining people with his sense of humor. He had many friends who loved and admired him dearly. John traveled the world with his wife and family for 56 years. He was a very giving person and enjoyed his contribution to others, including delivering Meals on Wheels for over 23 years. John was a skilled craftsman and wood worker from a very young age. He had many talents including building his own home, which the family still resides in. He also loved going to the Casino and playing the machines with his close friend, Ponch Andrejko. The twinkle in his eye and the smile on his face will always be remembered by everyone who knew him. John was a member of the Church of the Holy Family, Endwell and a former member of St Joseph's Church, Endicott. A Funeral Mass will be offered Friday 1:00 p.m. at the Church of the Holy Family, 3600 Phyllis St., Endwell. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. The family will receive friends at the Church of the Holy Family on Friday from 11:00 a.m. until time of mass at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in his memory may be made to the Church of the Holy Family or the
