Endicott: John (Jake) Shamulka, 86, of Endicott died December 10, 2012 at the Susquehanna Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Helen Shamulka; sisters, Mary Gonos and Helen Hanus; brothers, Michael, Frank Jr., and George Shamulka. He is survived by a sister, Anne Koval and a brother and sister-in-law, William and Rose Shamulka, all of Endwell. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews. Jake was a graduate of Union Endicott High School and Harpur College now Binghamton University. A veteran of the U.S. Army having served in Japan during the Korean Conflict. In his younger years he became an accomplished bowler and played softball in the local leagues. His greatest joy in life was participating in the development of the Endicott Youth Baseball Programs. He also served as Commissioner of the Broome County American Legion Baseball League. The family would like to thank the staff at Susquehanna Nursing Home for their excellent care and are especially grateful and appreciative of his great-nephew Eric Cole in tending to all of Jake's needs during his lengthy stay at the Susquehanna Nursing Home. He was a member of St. Mary's Orthodox Church in Endicott, NY. At his request there will be no calling hours. Very Rev. Michael Kleban will conduct a Funeral Service. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
