Benson, John W.

John W. Benson, 48 of Windsor, NY passed into the arms of the Lord surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer on Sunday, September 15, 2013. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Bill and Sue Smey and John and Lucille Benson and his mother-in-law, Shirley Demoski. John leaves behind his wife of 24 years, the love of his life, Lori, their 3 beautiful children whom he adored, Tyler, Nicolas and Emma. He is survived by his parents Martha and John Bender and Jack and Debbie Benson, siblings; Jeanne(David) McLaughlin, Joy(Matthew) Lewis, Jody Whiting and Michael Benson; father-in-law, Paul Demoski; sisters in law, Paula Holbrook, Joanne(Ed) Rattigan, Kathy(Mark) Swearengin, Denise Travis; brothers in law, Ken(Judy) Demoski and Scott(Birdie) Demoski, special friends; Rob Olmstead and Alan Colosi as well as his aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews and numerous friends. John will be remembered as a loving, caring and generous man. He was always willing to help anyone with a need and did so with the utmost respect for them. You could count on John to "know a guy" and to get you from Windsor to anywhere in "20 minutes." John was known to Windsor and STPS Ponies softball players and families as Papa Benson, "the Lollipop Man". John loved kids and mentored many boys on the following teams that he coached, Kirkwood Knights, BC Bulldogs and AAU basketball. John was very proud of his children and their achievements through school and athletics. John was the best father and husband a family could have. He always put his family first in everything and created lasting memories that will live on forever. John was a Project Manager for Prudent Engineering and worked with the best group of people. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, and worked in the AWANA program. John's loved ones will receive family and friends from 4 to 7pm on Thursday, September 19, 2013 at the THOMAS J. SHEA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 137 Robinson Street, Binghamton. Funeral services will be held at Grace Baptist Church, 35 Howard Ave, Binghamton on Friday, September 20 at 11am, officiated by Pastors Russ Smith and Scott Roloson. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Johnson City, NY. It was important to John that everyone know how much he LOVED THEM.
