Lesley Armstrong Obituary

Armstrong, Lesley

Vestal: Lesley Elizabeth Armstrong (Duncan), 92, passed away on Thursday, April 10, 2014 with her family by her side. She was born to Henry & Elizabeth Duncan on 6 August 1921 in Greenock, Renfrewshire, Scotland. She grew up among a close family of aunts, uncles and cousins where she enjoyed her youth near the sea. After school she went to work in the offices of a local business until she was drafted into the British Armed Service. She served England during WWII as a corporal for three years. After the war she went to work in Greenock for IBM where she met and married Bernard Armstrong. They continued to live in Europe and the United Kingdom until finally settling in Apalachin NY to raise their family. Lesley enjoyed walking, amateur theatre, opera, symphony, traveling, and gardening. She was a past member of the Choral Society in Owego, the Owego Garden Club, and volunteered at the Apalachin library. Lesley remained a long time member of the First Presbyterian Union Church of Owego where she was active for many years in the Presbyterian Women's organization and enjoyed the opportunity it gave her to help others. Above all, her family was at the center of her life. Lesley was predeceased by her husband, Bernard H Armstrong in 1980. Lesley is survived by her daughters, Suzanne Elizabeth & Michael Travis Poe and Lisa Emmaline & David Joseph Milkovich, her favorite grandsons Travis Armstrong Poe & Colleen Austin, Duncan Michael Poe, Jack Armstrong Milkovich; her favorite granddaughters Kathryn Lesley Thole & Josh Thole and Emmaline Elizabeth Milkovich; and her favorite great-grandchildren Camden Duncan Thole and Harlow Elizabeth Thole. The family would also like to include long time family friend Jennifer Smith and special extended family Deanna Whitmore, Dorothy Barton, and Alison and John Tubman. The family would like to thank the staff at Susquehanna Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Johnson City for the care and support given over these last few weeks. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 14, 2014 at 11:00am at Estey, Munroe & Fahey Funeral Home, 15 Park St., Owego with Rev. Parrish Bridges officiating. Family invites friends to call from 10 to 10:45 prior to the services. Donations can be made in lieu of flowers to the Humane Society at Strayhaven in Waverley NY.
