Davis, Lillian Irene
Lillian Irene Davis, 81, left peacefully to be with the Lord on Wednesday morning, October 16, 2013, surrounded by her loving family. In heaven, she joins her parents, Delmar and Elma (Liddington) Cleveland; siblings, John, Bertha, Jean; and baby daughter, Phyllis. She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Philip S. Davis; and her children, Leonard (Aleida) Davis, Vickie (Ron) Graham, Raymond (Elaine) Davis, May (Tim) Geiger; her sisters, Anna Daily, Pearl Bush, Hazel Cleveland, Delma Partridge; 19 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and her faithful canine companion, Trixie. Lillian was raised in Speedsville and was a graduate of Ithaca High School, Class of 51. Following their marriage on December 30, 1953, Phil and Lil moved to Berkshire and raised their family on the Davis Farm. She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Speedsville and The Ladies Auxillary of the Berkshire Fire Dept. where she cooked and baked countless pies for community gatherings. She was a former employee of GLF, Edward R. Eastman School in Berkshire, and retired from the Cornell Apple Orchard. She was the true matriarch of the Davis family: loving and devoted, always placing her family first yet welcoming anyone else into her home for something scrumptious to eat. Lillian was an avid gardener, baker, seamstress, caretaker, homemaker, banker, advice-giver and listener. She looked forward to her annual berry picking and canning. She also enjoyed participating in community events, senior citizens trips, and visits to the Poor Shots to socialize with her friends. Her family will receive friends on Friday at the MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley, from 4-7 p.m. A Funeral Service and Celebration of her Life will be held there at 2 p.m. on Saturday. Expressions of sympathy may be directed to her church or the Berkshire Ladies Auxiliary. Memories and condolences may be written in her guestbook at macphersonfh.com.
