Monahan, Mary Claire

On Tuesday, September 17, 2013, our dear mother and friend, Mary Claire (Shinoski) Monahan, 79, from Endicott passed away surrounded by her family and a dear friend. She fought a valiant battle with cancer which ended peacefully. Mary Claire was born on April 11, 1934 in Carbondale, PA, the daughter of Myrtle (Clifford) Shinoski, and Frank P. Shinoski. She attended the Webster School, as well as Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale. She was married on September 1, 1956 in St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale, PA to William T. Monahan (deceased), also from Carbondale. Mary Claire enjoyed many hobbies and activities over the years. She was a great cook, loved to do puzzles, and read. She took great pride in her collection of Madame Alexander Dolls. Mary was a Meals on Wheels volunteer, and enjoyed her many years as an employee of Fabulous Finds. Her summers were spent at Lake Lorain riding her bicycle, and picking blueberries. She loved when she had the opportunity to see her grandchildren play lacrosse, baseball, run cross country, swim and participate in marching, and concert band. Mary Claire was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, and had a special devotion to the blessed mother, Mary. She had the good fortune to travel with her family and friends to Ireland, Europe, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, as well as many destinations here in the US. Mary was predeceased by her husband, William Thomas Monahan, on January 2, 1983. She is survived by her loving children, daughters-in-law, and son-in-law, Thomas P. Monahan and wife Gloria, Garner, NC, Robert F. Monahan and wife Terri, Apopka, FL, William T. Monahan and wife Jessica, Vestal, NY, and Maureen Misner and husband Michael, Sayre, PA. Also living on as her legacy are seven tremendous grandchildren whom she adored and bragged about all the time. Patrick Monahan, Garner, NC, Kaitlyn Monahan, Wilmington, NC, Ian Monahan, Garner, NC, Christina Monahan, Gainesville, FL, Michaela Monahan, Altamonte Springs, FL, James Misner, Sayre, PA and John Misner, Sayre, PA. Mary is also survived by many dear friends and neighbors including her very dear friends Peg, her lunch buddy, and Elizabeth, her travel companion. Mary's family would like to thank Binghamton Hospice for their care and compassion during the last three months. Calling hours for Mary will be Monday, September 23, 2013 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, Main Street, Endicott from 10-11 a.m., immediately followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. A service will be held at Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Finch Hill, PA on Tuesday at 11 a.m. Donations made in Mary's honor to Lourdes Hospice, 4102 Old Vestal Road, Vestal, NY.
