Hromalik, Raymond Thomas

Endwell: Raymond Thomas Hromalik, longtime resident of Endwell, passed into new life on Sunday, October 28, 2012. He was cared for by Interim Hospice and the staff at Augustana Health Care Center, Apple Valley, MN. Raymond, one of 6 boys, was born August 3, 1923 in Barnesboro, PA. He is predeceased by his loving wife, Helen (Wilchak); father and mother, Michael and Helen (Ondecko); brothers, Larry, Francis, Bernie, and Mike; grandson, Michael Joseph Kurtz; son-in-law, Gary Joseph Kurtz; and other aunts, uncles, and family. He is survived by his daughter, Jean Kurtz (MN); son and daughter-in-law,Larry and Karen Hromalik (OH); grandchildren, John and Katherine Kurtz, Anne, Larry and Daniel Hromalik; brother, Albert Hromalik (GA); sister-in-law, Nanette Hromalik (CA); and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Ray graduated from Johnson City High School where he was an All-Star in baseball and basketball. He served with the Army Air Corps in the South Pacific in WWII. He retired from IBM. Ray was a longtime member of St. Casimir's Church where he continued to serve as an usher until his recent illness. He was a member of the Holy Name Society. As an accomplished athlete he turned down offers from the Yankees and Brooklyn Dodgers a week before he married, stating, "That was no way to start life with a new wife." He gave up his dream of playing shortstop professionally for the love of his life. Ray remained an avid Yankee fan throughout his life. Ray loved his family with all his heart. He was a man of quiet faith. He was a good, decent and generous man. He was a loving spouse, father, grandfather and uncle. He was totally lost when his beloved Helen died in 2006 and he is now reunited with her. His humor was legendary a trait he has passed on to his family. Funeral services will be held Saturday 9:30 a.m. from The Leon Pucedo Funeral Home, Inc., 1905 Watson Blvd., Endicott, and 10 a.m. at St. Casimir's Church, where a funeral mass will be held. Entombment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the Pucedo Funeral Home on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family would be honored if you would make a donation to the Red Cross to assist those suffering from the recent hurricane, or to the .
