Evanek, Robert S. "Butch"

Every once in a while, when God unexpectedly takes a young person to Heaven, you just can't help but know that it's because the good folks on the other side were more than likely in need of someone who could always keep things entertaining. That is certainly the case with Robert S. "Butch" Evanek, Jr., a wonderful son, brother, nephew, grandson and friend, who entered into new life on Saturday afternoon, June 16, 2012. Rob was born July 24, 1978, the son of Robert and Kathleen Yevchak Evanek, and little brother to Sheila and Karen. He attended Binghamton High School and was a master of many trades, including carpentry, painting, and all kinds of outdoor work. Anyone who knew Rob would tell you that his greatest gift was that he would do anything for anyone who asked. He will forever be remembered as a boisterous and never-give-up guy who refused to let the bumps in life's road stop him from always striving to be a better version of himself. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his dad, taking in a Yankees game with his friends, and he had a special place in his heart for animals, especially his dog, Zeus. Rob was an outstanding cook, and an even-more-outstanding eater, always more than happy to sample his mom's, grandmothers', and aunts' homemade Slovak dishes. In addition to Bob and Kathy, his father and mother, Rob will also be greatly missed by his sisters, Sheila (Jason Cronin) of Alfred, NY, and Karen, of San Diego, CA, and by his grandparents, Stephen and Teresa Yevchak of Binghamton. His aunts and uncles, Albert and Marie Dauphinais of Harpursville, NY, Stephen and Karrie Bowen-Yevchak of Chadds Ford, PA, and Richard and Judy Evanek of Estes Park, CO, will also cherish Rob as part of their lives. He will also hold a special place in the hearts of his cousins, Kristan and Melissa McMahon, Brianne McMahon, Erin McMahon, Lindsey Dauphinais, Jillian and Keith Labbe, Leslie Dauphinais, Marley Yevchak, RuthAnn Dave, Michael Evanek, and Jamie Masters. Several other great aunts and great uncles, numerous cousins, and many close friends also survive. While there are many here that will forever hold him dear, Rob was happily welcomed to Heaven by other people who treasured him as well: his great-grandmother, Susie H. Yevchak, and his grandparents, Richard and Marie Evanek. Without a shred of doubt, he is once again keeping all of them on their toes. Rob's family will receive friends on Wednesday morning, June 20, at 9:00 at St. Cyril's and Methodius Church, 148 Clinton St, Binghamton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held immediately following at 10:00 am, and a private burial will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers and in keeping with Rob's giving spirit, the family requests that donations be made to Catholic Charities of Broome County, 232 Main St., Binghamton, NY or to the in loving memory of Robert S. "Butch" Evanek. Rob's family would like to thank everyone who has reached out to them during this time; your love and compassion are deeply appreciated. Arrangements by Sedlock Funeral Home Inc., 161 Clinton St., Binghamton.
