William R. Falkin, Jr.
of Endwell
William R. Falkin, Jr., 86, of Endwell and formerly of Vestal, died Wednesday evening, February 17, 2010, at his home. He was the son of the late William R. Sr. and Theresa Jane Aldridge Falkin. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Susann McGavin Falkin, Endwell; his sisters, Ruth E. Falkin, W. Hartford, CT, Janice A. Falkin, Boston, MA; several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, numerous nieces and nephews; and a special nephew and Godson, Michael A. Pomeroy, Vestal; the wonderful nieces and nephews in the LaGrangeville, PA area and their extension in Missoula, MT. Also, a special niece and caregiver, Sharon Vitanza and her husband, Mark. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Church, Vestal, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister, greeter, usher and also trained the youth ushers and served on the Liturgy committee. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and earned the Silver Star, two Purple Hearts and other meritorious medals. Bill was a Marketing Representative for the Hartford Insurance Group for 47 years. He was an avid NY Yankee and NY Giants fan and a Binghamton Hockey fan since its inception in 1973. Bill was a supporter of youth sports, including hockey and baseball. He received the Super Fan Award with his wife from the hockey team owners and management in 1992-1993. They also received the Bob Carr Community Service Award in 2009 from the Broome Sports Foundation and received a Lifetime Membership from the Binghamton Booster Club.
A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Vincent de Paul Church, Vestal, Saturday at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, Friday from 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in memory of Bill may be made to Lourdes Hospice Program, 4102 Old Vestal Road, Vestal, NY 13850; or Broome Sports Foundation, c/o Carol Litynski, 3620 Rath Avenue, Endwell, NY 13760.
