Winifred Alma Apgar (Winnie), 84, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2012 at Good Shepherd Village in Endwell. She was predeceased by her parents Arthur and Lucy Rider and granddaughter Heather Apgar. She is survived by her devoted husband of 59 years Donald Apgar and her four children, Cheryl and Gary Hannis of Victor, NY. Bruce and Kim Apgar of Simpsonville, SC. Irene and Ronald Weiler of Dandridge, TN and Linda Apgar of Binghamton, NY; her grandchildren, Mark Hannis, Bonnie and William Schoon, Becky and Justin Bajan, Laura Apgar, Shannon Apgar and Joshua Weiler and great-grandchildren Zachary, Julianna and Caleb Schoon and Lydia Bajan. Winnie was born in Port Dickinson, NY and graduated from Binghamton North High School; she then attended Wyoming Seminary and Boston University. Winnie was a devoted Christian who loved the Lord and was a member of Johnson City Alliance Church. She was known to all as a kind and caring person, spouse, mother and friend. Her greatest joy was caring for her husband and children. She was a gifted homemaker and seamstress who created many wonderful dresses, costumes and jackets for her family over the years. She loved to travel with her husband and to spend time with her children, grandchildren and her pets. She never forgot a birthday, graduation or special event. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. The family would like to thank the nurses at Good Shepherd Village who took such gentle care of our mom during the final year of her life. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday May 19th at Wm. R. Chase & Son Funeral Home, 737 Chenango St., Port Dickinson. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday May 18th from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m.
