Father Augustine Kapinus, OFM Conv., died on March 6, 2014 at University Hospital in Syracuse, NY. He was born on April 17, 1931 in Jermyn, PA, to the late George and Mildred Kapinus. He is survived by two brothers, Edward (Barbara) and Richard (Kathleen) Kapinus, as well as several nieces and nephews. Father Augustine was professed as a Conventual Franciscan Friar on August 27, 1952 in Middleburgh, NY and made his solemn profession of vows on September 17, 1955 in Rensselaer, NY. He was ordained to the priesthood in Washington, DC on February 8, 1958. He spent his years in ministry as a teacher and as a parochial minister. He served as a teacher in Trenton, NJ, Staten Island, NY, and Callicoon, NY. He served as an Associate Pastor at SS. Cyril & Method Church, Binghamton, NY; Immaculate Conception, Trenton, NJ; Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Seaside Heights, NJ; St. Francis, Bridgeport, NY; St. Mary's, Minoa, NY. He was also pastor of Sacred Heart Church, Tribes Hills, NY and St. Ann's Church, Northville, NY. For the last two years, he was a member of the Franciscan community of St. Francis Friary in Bridgeport, NY. At the time of his passing, he was a resident at Central Park Nursing Home in Syracuse. Calling hours will be held on Monday, March 10, 2014 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at his home parish, SS. Cyril & Method Church, 148 Clinton St., Binghamton, NY. There will be a Franciscan Wake Service at 7:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at SS. Cyril & Method Church on Tuesday, March 11 at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at the Slovak Catholic Cemetery in Binghamton. Donations in memory of Fr.
