Newberry, Merle J.

Endicott: Merle J. Newberry, 93, of Endicott, died peacefully at home with his family by his side on Sunday, March 23, 2014. He was predeceased by his brother, Glenn Newberry; sister, Kathryn Wigle; and grandson, Jonathan Evans. He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Teresa J. Marble; daughters, Shirley and Don Evans, Carry and Mike Mead; 7 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; brother, Lysle and Betsy Newberry; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Merle was a WWII Army veteran. He retired from IBM. He was a member of various service organizations throughout the years, most recently very active in Friends of George F. Johnson Library. Merle's hobbies included camping, singing with the Barber Shop Chorus, restoring furniture, playing the violin, and most of all he loved playing host to his family. His greatest devotion was to his sweetheart, Teresa, who will miss him dearly. A funeral service will be held at the Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, LLC, 300 E. Main St., Endicott, Wednesday at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Endicott. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Merle may be made to the Jonathan Evans Memorial Fund, c/o Peru Central School Federal Credit Union, P.O. Box 565, 22 Davy Lane, Peru, NY 12972.
