Mayers, Marie K.

Marie K. Mayers, 100, of Johnson City, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Friday, April 4, 2014. She is predeceased by her devoted husband of 58 years, William J. Mayers. Also gone before her are her daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Walt Pichura; her parents, Mary and Lawrence Hickey; sisters, Rita O'Reilly and Greta Hall; brother, Robert Hickey; as well as several aunts, uncles, and cousins. She is survived by her sons; William (Shirley) Mayers and James (Karen) Mayers; nine grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. Marie was a long time member of Blessed Sacrament Church in Johnson City and enjoyed her volunteer time there as well as spending time with dear friends. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She loved to bake and had several sought after recipes. Her all-time favorite saying was "I love you a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck." She has been a resident at Willow Point Nursing Home for the past five years and was very happy and grateful for the quality of care while there. The family would like to thank Dr. Crum and the staff, including Vickie, Michelle and Julie. Also, special thanks to her son Bill for being her guardian angel for so many years. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 9 a.m. from the J.F. Rice Funeral Home Inc., 150 Main St. Johnson City, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Ambrose Church, Endicott. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends Sunday from 5-7 p.m. at the J.F. Rice Funeral Home Inc.
