Somers, Eleanor Miller Nolan
Johnson City: Eleanor Miller Nolan Somers, 83, of Johnson City, went to be with the Lord on April 16, 2014. She was born in Johnson City on February 28, 1931 and was a lifelong resident. She passed away at home with her beloved family at her side. Eleanor was predeceased by her husband, Paul Nolan; her parents, Joseph and Frances Miller; brothers, Louis Miller, Joseph Miller and Richard Miller; sisters-in-law, Patricia Miller Wilson and Rita Miller; and nephew, John Miller. She is survived by her loving children, Paul Nolan of Holden Beach, NC, Kathleen Nolan Dudley of Mount Pleasant, SC, and Laurie (Bill) Nolan Maloney of Austin, TX. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren, Phillip (Samantha) Dudley of Boston, MA, Kristine Dudley of South Boston, MA, Elise Maloney of Newark, DE, Paul (Amanda) Maloney of San Angelo, TX, Joseph Maloney of Pensacola, FL and Nolan Maloney of Austin, TX; as well as great-granddaughters, Payton Maloney and Aalijah Maloney. Eleanor's memory will be cherished by her caring brother, Edward Miller of Binghamton, NY; her devoted sister, Violet Kenville of Binghamton; brother-in-law, Bill Kenville of Binghamton; sister-in-law, Anita Miller of Johnson City; close family friend, Rose Hendricks of Oneonta, NY; and "adopted" daughter and friend, Lori Czeitner of Johnson City. She will be fondly remembered always by her many nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces, cousins and treasured friends, including Lucille Cisek and Melva Frederick. The family would like to express their great appreciation for the dedicated caregivers who assisted Eleanor in recent years, especially Lorraine Vaughn who cared for her with kindness and respect. Eleanor was a graduate of Johnson City High School. She was a communicant and devoted lifetime member of Blessed Sacrament Roman Catholic Church, where she taught CCD, served as a Eucharistic Minister to area nursing homes, and belonged to the Perpetual Adoration Society. She was a member and past president of the Johnson City Women's Republican Club, a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, the Johnson City Child Study Group and the St. Bonaventure Women's Club. Calling hours will be Monday, April 21, 2014, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a rosary being said at 7:00 p.m. at J.F. Rice Funeral Home, 105 Main St., Johnson City. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at 9:30 a.m. at St. James Roman Catholic Church, 147 Main St., Johnson City. Burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery in Johnson City. In lieu of flowers, the family asks to please consider making a donation to Lourdes Hospice.
