Martin, Helen

Helen Martin went to be with her Lord and Savior on May 25, 2014. She was born on November 27, 1929 to Carroll and Edna Hodges of Port Dickinson. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 49 years, Bill Martin of Binghamton. She is survived by her brother, Thomas and sister-in-law, Sylvia Hodges of Vestal; sons and daughters-in-law, Rick and Ruby Martin of Centreville, VA, Thomas and Linda Martin of Saranac, NY, Kevin and Darlene Martin of Hillcrest, and Keith and Jackie Martin of Nedrow, NY. She is also survived by grandchildren, Bill, Adam, Lisa, Travis, Ryan, Kirsten, and Roland Martin. Also surviving are six great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Peg Almy of Port Crane; and numerous nieces and nephews. Helen was a Registered Nurse for over 50 years after completing her training in Albany, NY. She worked for many years at Chenango Bridge Medical Center. She attended church at West Presbyterian in Binghamton for many years and also attended Cross Point Community Church for the last several years. Helen spent the last eight years of her life living at the Hilltop Campus where she quickly made friends with the other residents. She volunteered at the front desk there, helped prepare for worship services, played cards, and belonged to the book club. She was a woman with great love and passion for her family, friends, and her patients. She will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved her. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 29, 2014, at Wm. R. Chase & Son Funeral Home, 737 Chenango St., Port Dickinson. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Helen's memory may be made to Lourdes Hospice, 4102 Old Vestal Rd., Vestal, NY 13850 or to The V Foundation for Cancer Research at
