Binghamton: Erik Howard Duffy, 95, happily joined his late wife, Barbara, on May 27, 2014 surrounded by family. He was predeceased by his parents, Howard and Pauline Duffy of Holtwood, PA; his sister, Betty Rhinier, of York, PA; and his beloved grandson, Paul Anbro. After graduating from Penn State in Electrical Engineering, Erik and Barbara spent most of their lives in Catonsville, MD where he worked for Sperry Rand and Westinghouse. He was an active amateur radio operator whether in the basement of their home with antennas strung throughout the yard or while camping in their travel trailer along the East Coast. His early hobby working with wood turned into his passion of building boats for his family to enjoy. Each boat was christened SuJo, (named after his two daughters) where many family memories were made swimming, fishing, crabbing and motoring down the beautiful Magothy River off the Chesapeake Bay. His beautiful "first mate" and loving wife, Barbara, of 70+ years was his true love and spent many years in their colorful, cozy home entertaining family and friends, often crab parties, with a pool especially for the grandchildren to enjoy. He always asked the kids to do something fun like getting a snow-cone and to the adults, his dry sense of humor was never wasted. He and his wife made the wise decision to move to Binghamton in their later years to be with their daughters, Susan DeNoyelles, (Roger) and Jo Anbro (Donald). All of his grandchildren have wonderful memories of "Pop" as well as beautiful pieces of pine furniture made by him. They are Leslie (Scott) Almstead, Erik (Jenna) Duffy, John (Katie) DeNoyelles, and Marcy (Trevor) Herrick. He also leaves behind his great-grandchildren, Laurissa, Kyle, Sage, Savannah, Wade, Robbie, Matthew, Yvette, Lydia, Clive and Elise. The family would like to thank the staff at Vestal Park Nursing Home at GBHC for their compassionate care of Erik, especially when his wife passed away a year ago. Proud of his Norwegian ancestry, the family will "skoal" and celebrate the life of a gentle man at a later date.
