Croft, Carolyn S.

Carolyn S. Croft, 72, formerly of Newark Valley, passed away suddenly on May 31, 2014 in Cortland where she has resided for the past several years. Carolyn was predeceased by her parents, Cyrus and Edith (Clendenin) Cassell and is survived by her son, David (Linda Smith) and daughter, Debra (Randy Martin) Byrnes; grandchildren, Aidan, Brigid, Phoebe and Brendan Byrnes; great-grandson, Cameron Byrnes; several nieces, nephews, cousins; an aunt, Connie Roudybush; an uncle, Jim Clendenin; and her dear friends, Trish Jeffers and Donna Walsh. For many years, Carolyn was a legal secretary at various law firms in the Southern Tier. She had an extensive doll collection, was an avid reader, especially enjoying murder mysteries, and a doting animal lover…a fact her dog, Callie Rose and cat, Katie Scarlet can attest to. Carolyn's family will receive friends at the MacPherson Funeral Home, 5 Whig St., Newark Valley on Wednesday, June 4, from 11 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. A Funeral Service and Celebration of Her Life will follow there at 1 p.m. with Rev. Nancy J. Adams officiating. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery, Newark Valley. Those who wish to remember Carolyn with a memorial donation are asked to kindly consider S.P.E.A.K., Animal Sanctuary, 351 Flint Rd., Binghamton, NY13905, in memory of Carolyn S. Croft. Memories and condolences may be written in her guestbook at macphersonfh.com.
