Donald E. Olin
of Harpursville
Donald E. Olin, 81, of Harpursville, passed away on Saturday, November 15, 2008, at his home. He was predeceased by his wives, Grace Lucille Olin and Judith Weeks Olin; and a sister, Vera R. Throop. He is survived by his children, William (Linda) Olin, Diane (Jack) Olin White, Michael (Anita) Olin, Thomas (Debra) Olin, Douglas (Donna) Olin, Kenneth Olin (William Caldwell), Jennifer (Henry) Vaccaro, Dorinda (Kyle) Stone, Marni (Robert) Przekop; seven grandchildren, Christine, Philip, Jonathan, Theresa, Jeffrey, Cori and Will; two great-grandchildren, Catherine and Hannah; companion, Mary Gilg; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Ethel Oliver, Joyce and Richard Powell, Marie and Forrest Meredith; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Warren and Emilia Olin, Glenn and Jean Olin, David and Shirley Olin; and several nieces and nephews. He attended Harpursville United Methodist Church. Don was a lifelong farmer, retiring from dairy farming in 1988. He was a member and held leadership positions with many organizations including Farm Bureau, Cooperative Extension, FSA, Dairylea, Harpursville School Board, Colesville Historians Advisory Committee, Doraville Schoolhouse Restoration & St. Luke's Museum. He was an avid woodworker and Indian artifact collector.
Funeral Services will be held at the Harpursville United Methodist Church on Friday at 11 a.m., Pastor Sue Shields will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Windsor. The family will receive friends at the Osterhoudt-Madden Funeral Home, 69-71 Maple Street, Harpursville, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Old Onaquaga Historical Society, POB 318, Harpursville, N.Y. 13787; or the Harpursville United Methodist Church, POB 23, Harpursville, NY 13787. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Colesville Ambulance Squad and the Ouaquaga Fire Co. for their assistance.
