Cutler H. Baldwin

of Owego

Another member of THE GREATEST GENERATION has fought his last battle. H. Cutler (Joe) Baldwin, 91, passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at Wilson Regional Hospital. Cutler was predeceased by his parents, Earl S. and Ruth McHenry Baldwin; sister, Athalie; brother, Douglas; brother-in-law, Judson Spencer; sister-in-law, June Spencer Blackie; brother-in-law, Norman Blackie and his in-laws, Judson and Marian Spencer. Cutler is survived by his adoring wife of 67 years, Jeannette Spencer Baldwin; daughter, Marnie (Jim) Schrader; and grandchildren, Roger and Lorrie Schrader. Cutler is also survived by a sister, Narda (Donald) Decker of Durham, NC; sister-in-law, Jewell (Charles) Parchinski of Endicott; sister-in-law, Joanne (DeLane) Isaak of Clark, SD; and several nieces and nephews. In the late 1930's, Cutler graduated from Hollywood Motion Picture Institute. His claim to fame was that he double dated with Judy Garland! Cutler was a WWII Veteran of the Army Air Force in test and development. He proudly flew B-17s and B-29s. His last flight in a B-17 was for his 80th birthday. Cutler was part of the Berlin Air Lift, and flew for European Airways Transport into Europe and North Africa. Following his separation from the Army Air Force, Cutler and Jeannette traveled the U.S. and settled back home in Owego, NY. Cutler was employed with GLF (Agway), GE, and retired from Glendale IBM after 29 years of service. Cutler was an avid nature photographer and enjoyed sharing his hobby with others. Often one would find Cutler in his "shop" where no one went into weeks before Christmas because 'Santa' was working his magic in his woodworking shop. His home is a testament of his talents as a craftsman of wood. Cutler was a gentleman and rarely spoke unkindly about anyone. His love of people and travel took him on many 'side trips' with his camera just to see what he could see and experience. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 6, 2011 at 1:00 PM at Estey, Munroe & Fahey Funeral Home, 15 Park Street, Owego with Pastor Kevin Dunn, officiating. Burial will be in the spring in the family plot at the Broadway Cemetery. He will be the 7th generation of family to be buried there. Family invites friends to call on Saturday, March 5, 2011 from 3 to 5 PM at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made in Cutler's name to Maranatha Volunteers International, 1600 Sacramento Inn Way, Suite 116, Sacramento, CA 95815 and Smile Train, PO Box 96211, Washington, DC 20090-6211. www.emfaheyfuneralhome.com
