Daniel was predeceased by his mother (Geraldine Kostyshak) and his wife (Rhonda Hillhouse Kostyshak). He is survived by his father Edward Kostyshak of Binghamton, his brother William Kostyshak of Rochester, NY, and his sister Daria Brown of McLean, VA. Daniel grew up in Dearborn Heights, MI and was a graduate of the United States Military Academy class of 1980. Kosty, you always brought a level of optimism and class to forum discussions that one normally wouldn't expect from our group. I believe that even those who disagreed with you most still called you a friend. You will be missed!

RIP Kosty. You will be sorely missed by all in our wonderful hobby of home theater. Your knowledge, commitment and the class in which you carried yourself are all exemplary and something the rest of us struggle with.

Thank you for serving our country and our community, it won't be the same without you.

Robert.

I am shocked and deeply sadden to hear of Dan's passing.

Dan was a friend and I worked very closely with Dan on the BD vs. HD DVD fight. Dan possessed great technical skills and had a strong dedication to stand up to what's right.

Dan volunteered to help and was a great friend to all who knew him.

You are greatly missed and I will keep Dan in my heart forever.

Rest in peace.

Dan "Kosty" K. - You will be missed, I am sure by many outside the forums which you so actively participated in, far more than those who just knew you as Kosty. I always looked forward to seeing what new numbers would be posted for the day, week, month, and year from you and the ensuing charts...

Another chart? Geez! I'm sure you have a few dozen of them in hand right now, wherever you are, explaining to people how the figures support HD movies being the bees knees for the next dozen years. It was always fun to see those pop-up and read through the debates (and participate).

You added a special flair to the forums at High Def Digest, and while not all agreed, I do think they all will miss what you brought. I know I will.

I hope you have found peace within, and I hope your friends and family who just know you as Dan, find a peace as well.

It has been a pleasure.

It was with great sadness that I've just heard of Dan's passing.

I first got to know Dan only a year or so ago when he arranged a trade show appearance and came down to supervise the setup. It's a credit to Dan's integrity that he tried to warn us the show would be a bust, even though it was not in his best interest, and he was right. Small IT trade shows can be hard work at the best of times, no more so than when the exhibitors outnumber the attendees 5 to 1!

Dan spent the next couple of hours chatting and lifting our spirits, we talked about our experiences in the military and a shared love of movies, a topic on which his knowledge and enthusiasm seemed unlimited.

I don't think we gained much business that day, but I did feel like I'd made a friend. I wish I'd gotten to know him better, but the times our paths crossed he always greeted me like an old buddy.

To Dan's family, I hope the considerable pride you must have for him eases your loss.

Rest easy Dan.

I never personally met Kosty as he was known on the Internet, but had followed his work for years on various forums. His tireless work for Blu-ray sales was much appreciated by all who read it and he was always a first-class gentleman. You'll be missed...

The entire community lost a true enthusiast, someone who was always honest and willing to share his knowledge with others, and a great friend. This hobby of ours, which we were often too passionate about, will not be the same without you.

Your enthusiasm will not be forgotten.

Rest in peace, Kosty.

Dearest Dan,
You will be sweetly remembered forever. May you now rest in peace as I am so proud to see all of the great things you did, and not surprised one bit. I know you leave behind many of your footprints with those whom loved you so much, and stood beside to pat your back or wipe a tear, May you forever Soar and walk those streets of Gold...
