Johnson City: Leo Haruk, 96, of Johnson City, a very kind and generous soul, passed away from this earth on Friday, January 18, 2013, to join his wife, Nonie. He was predeceased by his parents, Cynthia and Nicholas; and his brothers, William and John. He is survived by his sister, Mary Merritt, NC; a cousin, Helen Brown, OH; also many nieces, nephews, and numerous very dear friends. Leo was a WWII veteran where he proudly served in the US Navy. He retired from the IBM Corp. in Owego after 34 years of service. Over the years, Leo was an avid hunter and loved his flower gardens. He had many things that he cared deeply about: his churches, St. James Church and St. Michael Greek Catholic Church, and an orphanage he supported in Russia. He was a member of the Nocturnal Adoration Society. Funeral Services will be held at the J.F. Rice Funeral Home Inc., 150 Main St., Johnson City, Friday at 9 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. at St. James Church, where a Funeral Mass will be offered. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery, Town of Dickinson. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 4-7 p.m. The Nocturnal Adoration Society will conduct a service at the funeral home Thursday at 4:30 p.m. Those wishing may make memorial contributions to St. James Church Memorial Fund, 147 Main St., Johnson City, NY 13790 or St. Michael Greek Catholic Church Memorial Fund, 280 Clinton St., Binghamton, NY 13905 in Leo Haruk's memory.
