Kirkwood: Don N. Hawkins, 78, passed away Friday February 1, 2013 after a short illness. He was predeceased by his parents and his wife Janice Hawkins. He is survived by three son, Jeth B. Hawkins, Timothy J. Hawkins and Don E. Hawkins, two daughters, Jenny L. Haferkamp and Donna J. Gutierrez, 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren and dear friends, Kevin and Mary Baisley and Rick Penny, Jr. and family, as well as his beloved and faithful chocolate labrador, Java. Don was the former owner of Skyline Kennels where he cared for others dogs and he was known throughout the United States for the wonderful Labradors he bred. He was active in many organizations, including the NY State Outdoor Guide Organization, a past Master of Bluestone Masonic Lodge in Hallstead, an officer of the Valley of Binghamton, AASR and a recipient of the Meritorious Service Award by the NYSCOD, Kalurah Shrine, Conklin Rod and Gun Club and the V.F.W. Don was proud to serve his country in the US Navy and the US Army, retiring after 20 years of service having served both in Korea and Desert Storm. He loved to hunt, fish, raise Labradors and be outdoors and share his wealth of knowledge with others. Don was a loving father and grandfather.

A celebration of Don's life will be held 6:00 pm Thursday at the Conklin Presbyterian Church, 1175 Conklin Rd. Conklin. The family will receive friends at the church from 4-6 pm. The Masonic service will be held at 6pm with religious and military services to follow. Entombment will be in Vestal Hills. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the NYSOGA or the Shriners Hospital for Children. Services provided by the Hopler & Eschbach Funeral Home, 483 Chenango St. Binghamton.
