Wyoming, DE: Mary-Ellen Hall, age 66, passed away peacefully at home on May 9, 2013 after fighting a three year battle with cancer. She was born on November 8, 1946 in Philadelphia, PA to Joseph and Eleanor D'Urso. She graduated from Vestal High School, Vestal, NY and received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from SUNY at Cortland, NY. She also received a Masters degree from Salisbury State in Salisbury, MD. Mary-Ellen was an elementary school teacher for 28 years at W.B. Simpson and Nellie Stokes in the Caesar Rodney School District. She loved teaching and touched the lives of many children over the course of her career. Mary-Ellen was an involved member of the community. She was a member of Holy Cross Church and a past member and president of the Newcomers Club. She was also a lifetime member of the VFW Ladies Auxilliary Post 3238. She taught bible study and enjoyed her book club, card playing group and craft group. She loved to travel and enjoyed meeting new people and making new friends. Most of all, she loved to spend time with her family and friends, especially her four grandchildren. Mary-Ellen is survived by her husband of 45 years, Leonard (Lenny) H. Hall; her sons and daughters in law, Christopher and Amber Hall of Wyoming, DE, Michael and Ellie Hall of Dover, DE; four grandchildren, Matthew, Michael, Ella and Everlee Hall; mother, Eleanor D'Urso of Binghamton, NY; brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Gail D'Urso of New York, NY; sister and brother-in-law, Denise and Carl Rainey of Fairport, NY; four nieces and nephews, David D'Urso, Laura D'Urso, Lydia Rainey and Carolyn Rainey. She is also survived by a group of close friends who have been her constant companions and supporters. Mary-Ellen was preceded in death by her father, Joseph D'Urso and her sister, Michelle D'Urso. Those who knew Mary-Ellen would agree that the world is a much better place for having her in it. She had a generous heart, a happy disposition and great sense of humor, even until the very end. Mary-Ellen was the kind of person who would do for others and not expect anything in return. She helped just for the joy of making someone else happy. She led by example and was admired by others for her sweet spirit and welcoming nature. She leaves behind her a legacy of beautiful memories for those who were lucky enough to have known her. A gathering of remembrance for Mary-Ellen will be 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, May 12 at Pippin Funeral Home 119 West Camden Wyoming Ave. Wyoming, DE 19934. There will be a funeral mass for Mary-Ellen at 12:00 p.m. on Monday May 13, 2013 at Holy Cross Church 631 South State Street Dover, DE 19901. Burial will private at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro, DE. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donation to Delaware Hospice, 911 S. DuPont Hwy., Dover, DE 19901.
