Apalachin: Rose Villapiano Tracy, 93, passed away after a brief illness Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at Riverview Manor. Mrs. Tracy was predeceased by her husband, Benjamin F. Tracy and second husband Sam Zeman. She is survived by her five children: Frank (Jean) of Philadelphia PA, Liz (Kean) McDonald of Wallingford PA, Tom (Lisa) of Potomac MD, George (Linda) of Phoenix MD., and Ben (Rachel) of Blacksburg VA., 13 grandchildren and one great grandson. Rose was a 1938 graduate of Asbury Park (NJ) High School and a 1942 graduate of Douglas College (Rutgers University). After graduating from college, Rose worked as a Medical Technician in Long Branch, NJ and married Ben Tracy in 1945. The couple moved to the Tracy family home on Marshland Rd in Apalachin shortly thereafter. Rose first taught Biology at Vestal High School and eventually took a position at Owego Free Academy as a guidance counselor. She retired in 1982 after 23 years. During her tenure at OFA, Rose completed a Master's degree at Cornell after going back to school part time. She is remembered fondly as an advocate for her counselees and a strong supporter of higher education for all the students who stepped through her door. After retirement she lived in Boca Raton FL during the winter and came north to the family's home on Marshland Road and Ocean Grove NJ in the summer. She will be missed by her family including her many nieces and nephews, her friends of many years and of course the many students whose lives she touched at OFA. Rose would always be known as the "life of the party." To that end, the family will receive friends from 1:00 to 3:00 PM on Saturday, August 17, 2013 at 2510 Marshland Road, Apalachin, NY.
