Martin, Thomas J.

Binghamton: Thomas J. Martin, 83, of Binghamton, passed away peacefully at Wilson Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, August 20, 2013. He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Catherine Martin; and a son, Keith Martin. Tom is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Dorothy (Yacko) Martin, Binghamton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas and Diane Martin, Britton, SD and David and Sheila Martin, Binghamton; two grandsons and a spouse, Colin and Carrie Martin, ND and Andrew Martin of MN. Two great grandsons, Cole and Crew Martin, ND and five grandchildren, Joseph, John, Molly, Michael and Bridget Martin, all of Binghamton. Tom is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Tom graduated from Binghamton Central High School and served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. After returning home, he attended and graduated from Broome Community College, earning a degree in Chemical Engineering. Tom was a Quarter Century Employee of IBM Owego, retiring in 1990, with 33 years of service. Tom was a lifelong member of SS Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Binghamton, where he loyally contributed many years at Tuesday night, Men's Club Bingo and as a Sunday lecturer. Tom enjoyed Monday night league bowling at the St. Cyril lanes with the "Bow Tie Gang" Men's Club team. Both Tom and Dorothy enjoyed many Saturday nights on the polka dance floor and trips to various casinos. Tom silently rooted for his Green Bay Packers and beloved St. Louis Cardinals, for which he was a huge Stan Musial fan. The family would like to thank the staff at Susquehanna Nursing Home and the Third Floor North Tower nurses and doctors who showed great care and concern during his final week. A Funeral Service will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, August 26, 2013 at Laskowski Funeral Home and at 10:00 a.m. at SS Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church, 148 Clinton Street, Binghamton, where a Funeral Mass will be celebrated. Burial will be in St. Mary's Russian Orthodox Cemetery, Binghamton. The family will receive friends and relatives at the funeral home on Sunday, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Tom's name to the Seton Catholic Central High School, Tuition Assistance Program.
