Michael J. English, 88, passed away on Sunday, October 13, 2013 at Willow Point Nursing Home, Vestal. He was predeceased by his parents, Jane (Kolar) and Charles English and a brother, Richard English. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Nicolene English, as well as five children and their spouses: William (Cheryl) English, Vestal, Michael C. (Claire Lorraine) English, Owego, Stephen (Susan) English, Montrose, PA, Thomas English, Brackney, PA and Mary Beth (Steven) Nelson, Irmo, SC; four grandchildren, Katherine English, Daniel English, Mial Williams and Nicholas Williams; two step-grandchildren, Stephen Squires and Shannen Squires; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Theresa DePersis, Nicholas Minoia, John (Alice) Minoia, Marie Minoia and Jerry (Cathy) Minoia; many nieces, nephews and close friends. Mike was a member of St. James Church, Johnson City. He graduated from Union Endicott High School and was a post-WWII Army Veteran and was a member of American Legion Post 758 in Johnson City. He was employed by IBM retiring after 30 years of service. He enjoyed reading, model railroading, watching a good Western, the NY Mets and spending time with his family. Mike was a devoted husband and father and he will be greatly missed. The family would like to thank the entire staff at Willow Point for their compassionate care. The family would also like to thank all of Mike's friends at Willow Point, especially Stu and Dave who made his stay there as pleasant as possible. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. James Church on Thursday October 17 at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the J.F. Rice Funeral Home, Inc., 150 Main Street, Johnson City on Wednesday, October 16 from 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the in Mike's memory.
