Melvin "Mel" J. Manasse, 66, of Whitney Point was a well respected man and was looked up to by many. He leaves behind his wife Kathryn; four children, Leslie Manasse and Nicole Strudevant, Matthew and Nicole Manasse, Sarah Manasse, Anita and Thomas Buchman; three grandchildren, Jessica, Greyson and Griffin; one great grandchild Cooper, one sister Leonore Manasse, one brother Charles Manasse, many family friends, a large extended auction family and many patrons. Mel was a Professional Auctioneer for 49 years, was Founder and Co-Owner of Mel Manasse & Son Auctioneers in Whitney Point, NY. He held and conducted 1000's of auctions throughout NY and the East Coast. He had an unsurpassed amount of friends, colleagues and acquaintances throughout his career. He was a strong supporter of NYSAA and held the honor of President, Director, Auctioneer of the Year, State Champion Auctioneer and Hall of Fame Inductee. Mel was also a member of several other State Auctioneer Associations and other organizations. He was -5th Generation in the livestock business which led him to the Auction Business that he thoroughly loved. He had a love for collector cars and founded "Mel's Cruise In" which donated to many charities. He received several awards from many organizations for his community services over the years. Some of his greatest joys included his classic cars, -being on the auction block, his friends and business that will carry on, but most important was his family. The family will receive friends at the Nichols Funeral Home, 7323 119th St., Whitney Point, NY Tuesday February 25, 2014 from 4-7 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday February 26, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Temple Concord, 9 Riverside Drive, Binghamton, NY 13905.
