Donald ZANOLINI Obituary

Passed away in Santa Rosa on Friday, November 9, 2012, at age 79. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Kay, his beloved children, Dino (Sara) Zanolini, and Dawna (Dennis) Rego, and grandchildren Darren Rego, Corinna Zanolini, and Luca Zanolini, all of Santa Rosa, and Dillon Rego of Brooklyn, NY. He also leaves sisters, Evelyn Dye and Barbara Larson, nephew Robert Zanolini and several nieces and nephews in Sonoma County. He was preceded in death by his parents, Silvio and Mamie Zanolini, and brothers, Joseph and Albert Zanolini. Bud was the baby of the family and as a child, worked alongside his Father on a horse and cart, picking prunes and bundling hops. A life-long resident of Santa Rosa, Bud graduated from Santa Rosa High School in 1952. He worked many years in wholesale food distribution, starting with Clover Milk and then for over 20 years with Hostess Cake. In 1978, he and Kay established Zanolini Distributing, which was in business for 33 years. He played semi-pro football for four years on the Petaluma Leghorns and semi-pro baseball on the Santa Rosa Rosebuds. He was known as "Coach" Zanolini to many Santa Rosa youngsters, having coached in the Santa Rosa National Little League, Santa Rosa Babe Ruth, and Pop Warner football. He was a member of the Italian-American Club and the Santa Rosa Druids #121. When he was in better health, he was very active and enjoyed playing softball, golfing, bowling and diving for abalone. He enjoyed traveling the world, hosting bus trips to Reno, attending live baseball and football games, sporting events of his grandchildren and playing cards with his friends. Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial gathering at Daniels Chapel of the Roses, 1225 Sonoma Avenue, Santa Rosa, on Monday, November 19, 2012, at 1:30 p.m. Donations in his memory can be made to the SRHS Foundation, St. Vincent de Paul Free Dining Room, or Santa Rosa youth athletic organizations. I worked for Zanolini Distributing from 1986-2005.Today at Buds service i heard more than one person say "Bud was not a religious guy".From out side appearances maybe that is so,but for twenty years i saw him help so many people.People would come to the wharehouse and Bud was always passing out food or opening his wallet to friends and family that were in need.Maybe he wasnt religious in ways people perceive what religion to be.I personally saw him five days a week for most of those 20 years and he acted more christian towards folks than us so called christians!!Dawna,Kay,Dino i am sorry for your loss.Bud played a part in helping me be who i am and i am glad and blessed to have known him.I will remember "Buddy Bear" for all of my days.Hang in there,my love and prayers to you all

Dear Kay, Dino, Dawna and families,
Bud was a great "mixer"; it didn't matter what the event, or whom he found himself next to, he would strike up a conversation, and be genuinely interested in learning about them, their work, etc. He always made me feel like part of the family, and I am certain he did the same for all who had the pleasure of spending time with him. I thank you, for sharing Bud and yourselves with me. I am so glad I had the pleasure of knowing him. May you find peace in knowing that he made a difference to many people, in his life. My thoughts are with you all, Marcy
